Children’s Book Illustration
For these Illustrations, I redesigned three illustrations from the children’s book “Chrysanthemum” by Kevin Henkes, with a twist of replacing the main character with a hippopotamus. The goal is to maintain the essence and charm of the original character while introducing a new aesthetic.
“Her name must be everything she is,” said her mother.
“Her name must be absolutely perfect,” said her father.
And it was.
Chrysanthemum. Her parents named her Chrysanthemum.
That night Chrysanthemum dreamed that she really was a chrysanthemum.
She sprouted leaves and petals. Victoria picked her and plucked the leaves and petals one by one until there was nothing left but a scrawny stem.
It wasthe worst nightmare of Chrysanthemum’s life.
Chrysanthemum did not think her name was absolutely perfect. She knew it.
